My Porthleven

Porthleven is a fantastic place for a sea swim - meaning it’s a great place for a mermaid to live!

In summer the sea is a beautiful place to get away from the cares of the world and just float. You’ll often see me swimming below the Ship Inn with my friends the Salty Sisters, an outdoor swimming group who meet regularly for dips and swims throughout the year.

I also like to chill in Porthleven harbour, where there is always protection from the pounding waves we sometimes experience (I love watching them, they’re awesome). I also like to watch people around the harbour and at the fabulous new Mussel Shoal right by the water. I’m waiting for them to do swim-in takeaways!

I love owning my little shop in Porthleven, a little way up from the Harbour on Fore Street.

I love the winter when people come in and enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the shop after a session of storm watching on the harbour.

I love the spring when driving in from the outskirts of Porthleven, where I am surrounded by daffodils and wild flowering hedgerows.

I love the summer, when the village comes alive with visitors enjoying everything we have to offer in Porthleven, including Penrose woods, beautiful coastal walks, the beach, fabulous independent shops and restaurants, and even just sitting on the harbour wall with fish and chips watching the children crabbing.

I love the autumn when everything calms down, but the days are still long, and everyone takes that little bit more time about everything.

I love Christmas, which is a magical time in Stargazey.

At Stargazey we are open all year round seven days a week, because quite honestly, I just love being here!

I feel extremely lucky to run my adventure company from the Harbourside of Porthleven. I’m lucky enough to meet some of the most interesting personalities from all over the world and show off the best of the South West in this idyllic harbour setting.

It's amazing to show locals and visitors alike the absolute gems of this coastal community. There are legends such as the Giant's Rock (a 50 tonne glacial deposit stuck on the reef), secret caves you can paddle through and secluded beaches. You can also head out and watch for dolphins, seals, even the odd whale or the bluefin tuna feeding frenzies. Every day out of the village is different.

Being a part of the ever-evolving Porthleven scene with my young family is a true pleasure each and every summer season and when the sun shines there’s no better place to be than jumping off the harbour walls into the sea.

I am the current Mayor of this beautiful harbour town of Porthleven here in West Cornwall, and was delighted to be voted in as Mayor last May after serving as a Town Councillor for six years.

The role is very varied and every day can bring various invites to functions, official openings of events or new facilities, and talking to societies and clubs - to name just a few!

When I’m not undertaking my duties as Mayor, I like to keep fit and healthy, and can often be seen out walking my Jack Russell named Bella, or running along the beautiful South West Coast Path.

I am so grateful and lucky to play an important part in our lovely, caring community here in Porthleven.
